Beth David Synagogue stands with the Pittsburgh Jewish community, especially the members of the Tree of Life Synagogue and those families who were affected after yesterday’s tragic event. We are deeply saddened by the shooting that took place at Tree of Life Synagogue. We mourn those who were lost and send comfort to those that were injured. May the memory of those lost be a blessing.
We are struck by the words of our Torah and our Prayerbook “Mah Tovu Ohalecha Ya’akov,” How Good are Your Tents Jacob! Bilaam uttered this famous blessing while attempting to curse the Jewish people. There is a vital lesson in this miraculous reversal. When we feel threatened as Jews or as a Jewish community, we must do our best to turn these negative actions into blessings.
